Sametová revoluce
The Velvet Revolution was a period of political change in Czechoslovakia in 1989, which led to the fall of the communist regime and the transformation of the country into a democracy. It was a non-violent revolution that began on 17 November after a brutal police crackdown on a student demonstration. Václav Havel was one of the main leaders of the revolution and a symbol of resistance against totalitarianism. He was a playwright and dissident who was involved in Charter 77 and the Committee for the Defence of the Unjustly Prosecuted. He was imprisoned and persecuted several times by the communist authorities. After the revolution, he was elected President of Czechoslovakia and later of the Czech Republic. He was respected at home and abroad as a moral authority and human rights.
